Biodegradation of Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulfonate by Sequencing Batch Reactor in Sanitary Wastewater

Introduction: Detergents lead to many environmental problems. The main aim of this study was to evaluate sequencing batch reactor (SBR) efficiency on Linear alkyl benzene sulfonate (LAS) removal. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, to investigate the removal efficiency of LAS, a SBR reactor was used. A roughly 12-hour operating cycle was chosen which included the discharge time ...

the performance of advanced sequencing batch reactor in wastewater treatment plant to remove organic materials and linear alkyl benzene sulfonates

conclusions with the proper operation of wastewater the treatment plant and increasing the retention time, the removal efficiency of the detergents increased. in addition, according to the environmental standards for bod5, cod and the detergents, the results of the present study indicated that the outputs of these parameters from the sbr system were appropriate for agricultural irrigation. resu...

Biodegradation of tannery wastewater using sequencing batch reactor--respirometric assessment.

This investigation proved that respirometry combined with sequencing batch reactor (SBR) could be an effective way for the removal of COD in tannery wastewater. Measurement of oxygen uptake rates (OUR) and corresponding COD uptake rates showed that a 12-h operating cycle was optimum for tannery wastewater. The removal of COD by degradation was stoichiometric with oxygen usage. A plot of OUR val...

Biodegradation of high concentrations of phenol by baker’s yeast in anaerobic sequencing batch reactor

Background: Phenol, as a pure substance, is used in many fields because of its disinfectant, germicidal, local anesthetic, and peptizing properties. Aqueous solutions of phenol are produced as waste in industries and discharged into the environment. Therefore, elevated concentrations of phenol may be found in air or water because of industrial discharge or the use of phenolic products. Method: ...

Evaluation of sequencing batch reactor performance for petrochemical wastewater treatment

Sequencing batch reactor (SBR) technology has found many applications in industrial wastewater treatment in recent years. The aim of this study was to determine the optimal time for a cycle of the sequencing batch reactor (SBR) and evaluate the performance of a SBR for petrochemical wastewater treatment in that cycle time. The reactor was operated with a suspended biomass configuration under ae...

Treatment of Slaughter House Wastewater in a Sequencing Batch Reactor: Performance Evaluation and Biodegradation Kinetics

Slaughterhouse wastewater contains diluted blood, protein, fat, and suspended solids, as a result the organic and nutrient concentration in this wastewater is vary high and the residues are partially solubilized, leading to a highly contaminating effect in riverbeds and other water bodies if the same is let off untreated. The performance of a laboratory-scale Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) has ...
